Policy Guidance on Integrated Hardware (Contributed Systems)

As the operational funding for the national advanced research computing (ARC) platform transitions from the CFI’s Major Science Initiative (MSI) to the Digital Research Alliance of Canada (the Alliance), Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), the Compute Canada Federation (CCF), CFI, and the Alliance have refreshed the guidelines for integrated hardware (contributed systems) and a renewed policy guidance is now available.

This renewed policy guidance will take effect for funding decisions rendered by CFI after March 31, 2022. The CCF and CFI will continue to apply the current contributed systems guidelines until that date.

Investments in advanced research computing infrastructure are maximized when those resources are shared. For that reason, CFI expects that new or additional research computing resources funded through any CFI infrastructure fund beginning April 1, 2022, and which cost more than $100,000 will typically be housed, managed and operated by the Alliance.

Prospective applicants of the CFI Innovation Fund should consult with the Alliance if they are planning to request advanced research computing infrastructure.
